Summary or Description of Project:
This research study is aimed at determining the genetic causes of the symptoms associated with bipolar disorder. Subjects with bipolar disorder and their family members are encouraged to participate. The study will consist of two visits, ranging from 2-3 hours each visit. The visits will consist of several detailed interviews, a one time blood draw and tests to measure memory and cognition. This study is being conducted in San Antonio, Texas and the surrounding area.

Eligibility Criteria:
You must have a diagnosis of Bipolar I Disorder, with an onset before the age of 50. You must be between 15-80 years of age and have a minimum of one grandparent of Mexican descent. You must also have a sibling who has a diagnosis of Bipolar Disorder or Schizoaffective Disorder, Bipolar Type. If you qualify, you may be compensated up to $100.00 for your participation.
