Administrative Psychiatry Fellowship Program Students: Individuals who have completed medical school, have a Texas State Medical license or are eligible for a Texas State Board Institutional Permit and are residents who have completed a General Psychiatry Residency who desire more intensive training in administration psychiatry. Course or Program Director(s): Kenneth L. Matthews, M.D. Description of Educational Program: UTHSCSA Department of Psychiatry and the Austin Psychiatry Residency Program jointly sponsor this fellowship, with training divided between San Antonio and Austin. In Austin, the fellow works six months at the Austin State Hospital (ASH) and the Central Office of the Texas Department of Mental Health and Mental Retardation. The fellow works closely with the superintendent of ASH on medical/legal issues in patient care and with Central Office personnel on legislative issues and presentations. In San Antonio, activities center for six months at the San Antonio State Hospital (SASH) and UTHSCSA Department of Psychiatry. At SASH the fellow works with the superintendent on physical plant and service delivery issues.
