General Psychiatry PROGRAM: Psychodiagnostic and Neuropsychology Laboratory DIRECTOR: Raymond M. Costello, Ph.D., ABClinP DESCRIPTION: The P&NL is a specialized clinical service laboratory within the Department of Psychiatry providing consultative psychological evaluations for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes. PERSONNEL: Raymond M. Costello, Ph.D. EDUCATIONAL PROGRAMS: Education is provided to referring physicians from all clinical service departments through the mechanism of the written consultation report regarding the socio-psychological and neuro-psychological factors affecting clinical presentations. RESEARCH PROJECTS: Three unfunded clinical service projects are in progress: (1) Psychological characterization involving the Rorschach Inkblot Method of women admitted to a Psychiatry inpatient unit because of a suicide gesture or with suicide ideation; (2) Statistical development of an optimal difficulty scaling for the Picture Arrangement subtest of the WAIS-III (3) Documentation of the time and cause of death of 500 alcoholic patients followed for 25 years after treatment. PATIENT SERVICES: State of the art psychological and neuro-psychological tests are available on an as-needed basis, tailored to the needs of the individual patient. HOW DO INTERESTED INDIVIDUALS CONTACT THE PROGRAM?: Patients are referred to the P&NL by any Department of The University of Texas Health Science Center at San Antonio, any clinical service within the University Health System, or by outside sources.
